Perspective of the gamer?

Space Cows is a shoot’em up with fart humor attached to it like bad cancer. The player fights his way through the levels of the space station throwing his toilet plunger at enemies. The plunger itself returns so the player can try to keep closing horde away with rapid-fire. Some enemies might need several hits, while the green mutant mob is destroyed from one hit.

In Finland, we had a superhero who flew with his fart. Clearly, the farmer is his cousin, flying with the power of fart and in his underwear through the space station. It seems like his attire has poor armor indeed as he doesn’t stand many hits. Mutants, lasers and odd plants (no comment) try to stop him. Additionally, he can slow down the time, allowing the player to recover his bearings under the onslaught.

The game runs smoothly with a controller, and it was fast enough to keep me entertained. Once in while player needs to make slight physics-based problem solving by flinging the cow to the milker
Milking is a mini-game, and it would appear the farmer likes the milk, collecting it floating all around.

Accordingly, developers, the game was inspired by:

– Angry Birds
– Ragdoll glitches
– Alien movies
– Italian choir music

The only question that reminds to me is ‘what the target audience of the game’ is? I mean two stick playing is fun, but for young kids who might appreciate fart humor, the setup might be too demanding?

Perspective of the ratings

ESRB gave ‘Teen’ rating to the game because ‘Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence, Sexual Themes, Blood.’ PEGI seems to have adopted the same age rating (PEGI 12), but I couldn’t find more information about it. Supposedly the arguments are similar.

While playing, you can talk about:

  • Why do we think farts are funny?
